Say yes to the date! A sweet treat to eat.

With all the information out there of all the types of food we should be saying no to… what treats can you say yes to? Dates, just to name one (and many more to come)!

One of the main reasons why ‘diets’ fail is because people feel restricted. If you’re choosing to eat better, you also have to choose food that makes you happy.

While they have a lot of sugar, and sugar is sugar, you can combine and add just a few to any dessert to get that hint of sweetness along with some other health benefits like fiber, antioxidants, and minerals.

The science behind it

Your health isn’t about willpower. It’s about science and preparation.

It doesn’t always have to be a ‘no’ to sugar and treats.  It’s about finding better treats! There are always ways to make your favourite treats more satisfying and nutritious, without the frustrating sugar crashes and guilt trips that follow.

For example; Peach crumble with super-easy homemade nice cream, fudgy chocolate brownies with icing, chocolate mousse, fat bombsand banana pancakes, just to name a few. Pinterest is absolutely full of sugar-free, grain-free, vegan, paleo, and dairy-free desserts. The amount of creativity out there is ridiculously exciting because you can find so much goodness that the old junk  becomes unappealing fast. Especially once you feel the difference of fewer sugar crashes, headaches, and a complete boost to your anxiety, depression, and sleep.

Treats to eat

We’re biologically constantly desiring sugar. The only way around it is to satisfy it through a healthy diet. Eating more natural healthy fats, cutting back on empty carbs, and filling up on fiber helps to reduce the hormones that make you only want more sugar.

Date balls, for example, give such a hit of great long-lasting energy that a carton of ice cream just can’t compare to. This recipe uses raw cacao (or Dutch cocoa powder) which is full of antioxidants, fiber, protein, iron, calcium, and magnesium.  Also offsetting the blood-sugar spike are raw nuts of any kind can be added since they’re full of protein, healthy fats, and fiber.  Along with some coconut flakes, adding to the healthy fat, protein, and fiber, this dessert has a little bit of everything, including amazing deliciousness.
